How Long Does A Divorce Or Dissolution Take?

Typically, a divorce or legal separation with minor children can take up to 24 months.

April 22, 2021

The Supreme Court of Ohio has set forth guidelines on how long certain divorce and post-decree matters can take. Typically, a divorce or legal separation with minor children can take up to 24 months, while a divorce or legal separation with no minor children can take up to 12 months. If you proceed with a dissolution by an alternative dispute method such as negotiation, mediation, or Collaborative Law, there are no guidelines, but they are generally shorter in time than litigation. There is no guarantee of how long your specific matter will take, but our attorneys are able to advise you on which procedure may be best for you and on the specifics of those procedures.
